The city colleges wore a deserted look on Friday as the strike called by college and university teachers across Maharashtra for implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission entered its fourth day. A marathon meeting took place on Thursday evening but talks remained inconclusive.
Talks will resume on Saturday, said representatives of the striking teachers. On Saturday talks will begin at 11 am. Once the bilateral draft on terms of various demands is ready, it would be placed before the full-fledged executive committee of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (MFUCTO) for approval. The teachers are hoping that the federation of the 10 university unions will approve the draft agreement on various demands apart from pay revision. Negotiations will then continue with Rajesh Tope, Minister for Higher and Technical Education.
Around 30,000 varsity and college teachers under the umbrella body MFUCTO are on an indefinite strike. They are demanding implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission and regularisation of around 10,000 teachers affected by the National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Eligibility Test (SET) qualification criteria.
