Following a meeting with a Cabinet sub-committee, Jammu and Kashmir government employees have deferred by a day their plan to go on a fresh strike from Thursday. They have been assured of implementation of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations by July.
Members of the Jammu & Kashmir Employees Joint Consultative Committee announced their decision on the third and last day of a total strike by over four lakh employees, after a marathon meeting with the five-member Cabinet sub-committee in Jammu on Wednesday. Leaders of the employees said the Cabinet would on Thursday approve the agreement reached between the two sides, and thereafter the strike would be called off formally.
Finance Minister A.R.Rather said arrears, on implementation of the pay panel recommendations with effect from April 2006, would be released, depending on availability of funds, in five instalments in five years.
As for regularisation of contract/consolidated employees, a committee would formulate a policy for them at par with RT teachers in a time-bound manner, JCC member Abdul Qayoom Wani told The Hindu.
However, the government has not given any assurance on enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60.
