The Punjab government will pay the arrears of Rs 7,000 crore to state employees as recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission in the next three years.
Replying to a question asked by Congress MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu in the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday, Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal said: “In the next three years, the government will pay arrears amounting to Rs 7,000 crore to all 3 lakh state government employees These arrears will be paid in one instalment every November, with the first being released this year.” When Sidhu asked what was the present policy of the government to pay financial benefits to retired employees, Manpreet said: “As per the existing policy, all employees are entitled to pension, gratuity, commutation of pension and leave encashment, besides provident fund and group insurance benefits, on attaining the age of superannuation.” In reply to another question regarding education, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said: “I have instructed the education department to give all details of the requirements so that funds can be released accordingly.
