Kerala threatens pay cut for strike

Congress led UDF government in Kerala on Monday said the no-work no-pay rule would be imposed on government employees participating in the nation-wide strike called by trade unions to protest the 'anti-labour' policies of the Centre.

In an order, chief secretary P Prabhakaran said unauthorised absence of the employees for participation in the strike would be treated as 'dies non' and pay for the day would be withheld from the salary for the month of February.

The order said the Director General of Police in consultation with the heads of the departments, would make arrangements for guarding the government offices in view of of the strike and to avoid any untoward incident.

Instructions had also been given to heads of departments not to sanction leave for employees other than certain specific grounds.
