The PMPML board of directors on Friday agreed in principle to give interim benefit to the employees who have demanded that the recommendations of the sixth pay commission be implemented.
The board of directors held a meeting on Friday to discuss the workers union's demand. The PMT Kamgar Sangh, one of the unions, had threatened to go on strike if the demand for an upward revision of salary was not considered.
The board of directors has decided to hold talks with the employees' unions to determine the interim benefit and to prepare a report, which will be tabled before the board of directors for approval.
Meanwhile, the PMPML will submit a copy of the decision taken on Friday to the industrial court. The court had earlier issued a stay on the strike proposed by the union, and had directed the PMPML to take a decision regarding the workers' demands. The court had asked PMPML to submit its report to the court before January 25.
