BSNL employees appeared to be divided on the eve of the all-India strike called by certain trade unions from December 1 to 3, with four Trinamool Congress-backed unions indicating today that they would not join their colleagues'' protest.
The four trade unions that have pulled out from the strike called by the BSNL Joint Action Committee are the All- India BSNL Officers'' Association, Telecom Employees Union (BSNL), Bharatiya Telecom Employees Union (BSNL) and the All- India Graduate Engineers & Telecom Officers Association.
"We oppose the strike when we are passing through difficult times and moreover, this will not help the organisation," Atanu Mondal, the leader of one of the trade unions, said.
He said the four unions have over 2,000 members and will try to maintain services during the strike, for which they were prepared to work overtime.
The BSNL Joint Action Committee said their meeting with the management had failed and therefore, they were going ahead with the strike.
Regarding the opposition from the four trade unions, Joint Action Committee Member A Mitra said the four trade unions are Trinamool-backed and their opposition would not count for much.
