Kerala Pay commission to submit report this month

The Ninth pay commission to revise salaries of state employees and teachers would submit its report in November. The state government is planning revised wages from April 2011. The state government has also asked the commission to give a report on the pay revisions in universities, high court and water authority.

The government, earlier, has approved a steep hike in salaries for college teachers under UGC and engineering college teachers under AICTE. The state government has also hiked the salaries of doctors. So there is a big difference between the salaries of state employees and these sectors. But the state government won't be able to opt for a massive hike like the other sectors. As per the government, if it takes a debt of Rs 2000 crore for pay hike, there won't be any money in the exchequer for developmental activities. So the demand to raise salary on par with central government employees would not be acceptable.

The government has allotted time till December to the commission, headed by Justice Rajendra Babu, which was formed in February. The evidence collections and discussions are now over. So the commission would submit its report in November itself. Even if the commission submits its report, the proceedings to hike the pay would be finalized only after three or more months. Then the decision has to approved by the cabinet. Accountant general also examines the same before issuing the order. The pay revision would be included in budget 2010-11.
