Update at 4 P.M : No waves noticed so far in A & N Islands, tsunami virtually rulled out and no likelyhood of tsunami formed anywhere in Indian ocean, says National Disaster Management Authority.

An earthquake of 8.9 on Richter scale has struck Indonesia. Tremors were also felt in Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Patna, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Cuttack, Bhubaneshwar and several other cities on the eastern coast of India. India has also issued tsunami warning for coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands following the earthquake.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service issued a red high-level warning for the islands, and also put out lower alerts for the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu states in the southeast of the country.
