Bank union threats strike for 5 day week

Bank officers, represented by their central union, today[18/01/12] threatened to go on a strike for a 5-day week.

G.D. Nadaf, general secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, a central union of officers, said, “We had a two-day meeting of the union here where it was decided that we would observe a one- day strike some time in the third or the fourth week of March if our demand for a 5-day week and regulated working hours are not met soon.”
The All India Bank Officers’ Association — another central bank union — had called a one-day strike on the same issue in August.
Nadaf disagreed that a 5-day week would create problems for customers.
“There are alternative technologies available. For example, bank ATMs run even on Sundays. It is estimated that 80 per cent of banking transactions now are done through ATMs,” he said.
The union also wants the pension of bank employees to be updated under the Sixth Pay Commission as in the case of central government employees, Nadaf said.

dear all,
Do strike for a single Nationalised bank to serve the motto of social banking and financial inclusion..
Why to open different banks in 100 mtr circle???
Only to fight for govt funds and accepting deposits from willful defaulters of other banks...
