The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday urged the Election Commission to allow payment of dearness allowance to state employees as it was due in January but had been withheld as the model code of conduct had had come into force.
In a letter to the Chief Election Officer, CPI state secretary Dr Girish said in view of soaring inflation, the state employees were incensed over non-payment of dearness allowance for which both the state government and the Election Commission were responsible.
Dr Girish said that normally the state government announced the second instalment of dearness allowance in November every year but this time it was announced in January. He said the Election Commission had withheld payment of the DA as the model code of conduct had come into force with announcement of poll schedule.
The CPI leader urged the Election Commission to take the issue seriously and allow immediate release of the dearness allowance instalment to state employees.
