Coal India Ltd is expecting to set the stage for wage negotiations within a month. The negotiation will define the company's wage bill on nearly 400,000 workers for next five years.
While the negotiation is delayed due to infighting within the dominant Indian National Trade Union Congress, one of the factions led by the general secretary, Mr Rajendra Prasad Singh has threatened to go on a strike from August 8 to 10, in protest against the delay.
A company official told Business Line that with little sign of truce between the two INTUC factions, the company was now forced to take call on the inclusion of INTUC on joint bi partite consultative committee.
The official said that “We may either eliminate both or include one of the factions adding that most of the other central trade unions were preferring inclusion of the Mr Rajendra Prasad Singh led faction on the JBC.”
Once the constituents of the JBC are finalized CIL should take board approval for carrying out the negotiation subject to approval from the coal ministry.
The official added that “We have already lost substantial time due to the in fight of INTUC. Things have now come to a critical phase and we may have to take a call soon on formation of JBC and set the stage for negotiations within a month.”
