The 23 day long fast-unto-death stir of the teachers ended today following an assurance from the government to adopt the revised pay bands recommended by the sixth pay commission.
COTA agreed to call off the agitation with "immediate effect" after signing a MoU with the government.
"We have signed an MoU with the government in a talk held at the office chamber of the Chief Minister" said Th Ibopishak, advisor of COTA.
The talk was held on the invitation of the government.
In the talks the government convinced the teachers that necessary orders will be issued by the first week of April.
Representatives of the teachers said the demands of the teachers were not satisfactorily addressed in the MoU and they were not confident of the assurances given by the CM.
But, considering the ensuing HSLC and HSSLC exams, COTA had to signed the MoU, Ibopishak said.
The government tabled a proposal of paying a pay structure to be framed by taking the mean of the pay bands paid to teachers in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim.
The CM sought for an April time frame, he added.
With COTA agreeing to call off all forms of agitations with immediate effect, the government agreed to release all teachers arrested during the agitation unconditionally, he added.
As many as 238 teachers are in jail.
They are likely to free tomorrow.
COTA started the fast unto death stir from January 19 .
