Meghalaya hikes Dearness Allowance

To tide over inflation because of the price rise of commodities, the Meghalaya government has effected a six per cent hike in dearness allowance for its employees and pensioners.
According to the recent notification in this regard, the government has increased the dearness allowance of the state government employees, pensioners and family pension holders from the present rate of 43 per cent to 49 per cent.
The dearness allowance will have a retrospective effect from July 1 this year.

The order will also apply to the members of work-charged establishment (those who draw salary according to the work done, especially under PWD) and “causal workers other than bungalow peons, holding posts in the scale of pay as admissible to the employees of corresponding categories under regular establishment, services or posts”.
The order further said, “The dearness allowance will remain suspended if the pensioners and the family pension holders are employed or re-employed in the state and central government or if they are absorbed in any state or central government company, corporation, undertaking, or autonomous body. It shall be revived after the spell of such re-employment or employment.”
According to the order, the payment under dearness allowance involving fractions of 50 paise and above would be rounded off to the next higher rupee and the fraction of less than 50 paise would be ignored.
