The defence ministry is analysing the concerns of the armed forces on the 7th Pay Commission report, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Wednesday.
"We are already on the job. By next week, we will be able to see what can be done," he told reporters after laying wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate on Vijay Diwas.
Officers feel the current pay commission recommendation is less rewarding for armed forces officers.
Among the concerns of the forces regarding the report is the way pensions are calculated on the basis of number of years served in a particular rank.
While the rank of major general is equivalent to joint secretary, sources from the forces said that an IAS officer becomes joint secretary sooner than an armed forces' personnel reaches that rank, and the %age of those who reach that rank in the forces is also lower.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address at the Combined Commanders' Conference onboard INS Vikramaditya on Tuesday, admitted that fewer officers got promoted in the forces.
Another grudge is the risk-hardship matrix.
While a soldier posted in Siachen Glacier gets an allowance of Rs 31,500 per month, a civilian bureaucrat draws 30% of his salary as "hardship allowance".
Parrikar was flanked by three service chiefs — Army Chief General Dalbir Singh, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, and Navy Chief Admiral R.K. Dhowan in paying respect to the martyrs on Vijay Diwas on Wednesday morning.
Vijay Diwas marks India's military victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.

No body is interested in speaking about lower cadre. Earlier senior officers were royal and cared for subordinates. At present, the top brass just care for LT gen and major generals.
Nobody speaks for NCs and junior ranks. The seniors are offered post retirement posts like governors and they accept all govt proposals
Top brass is securing their post retirement future. They represent cases of LT generals and major generals only. They are not royals enough for caring for subordinates like NCs and jawans.
It is all misleading feedback by forces. In civil services also, few organized group A services (like MES, BRO), officers reach Jt Secy level in 30 years(thanks to mismanagement by army), whereas in Armd forces, those who make it to Maj Gen, make it much earlier. Even 7th CPC has noted and highlighted this in profile of organized Gp-A services. Even Brigadier are being given posts of Jt Secy level in mixed organisations. So forces should give clear picture to public.
Those, picked for representing cases of this kind, are all from higher ranks. British defence system is still continuing in the forces in this country. Our own Indian officers some times are more bad than the past rulers. Every thing is considered by taking in view for officers facilities and better keep up, in and after leaving the service. Junior ranks have no voice and are made serve and live on their mercy. During my 21 years of service life, I have seen many wrong things. One thing, not the sincere workers but the 'polishing masters' were seen more lovable to the concerned seniors. I have experience of only few good commanders.
Lower ranks are always on the mercy of big bosses. British rule has gone but the system and mind set are continuing in more bad way. Highly paid and higher rank persons are only concerned for their facilities and have no limits.
British rule has gone long back but system set with a difference among men, has gone more worse. Juniors are always on the mercy of their bosses,everywhere. Highly paid take more care of their pets than their subordinates.
