U.P. higher education teachers on strike for early implementation of sixth pay commission

Teaching in all the state universities and degree colleges across Uttar Pradesh was affected on Wednesday as around 15,000 teachers observed a chalk down strike to demand implementation of sixth pay commission recommendations.

"Nearly 15,000 teachers of 12 universities and 354 degree colleges in the state are on a one day chalk down strike to press for early arrears of sixth pay commission," Secretary of UP Residential Universities Teachers Association (UPRUTA) Pushpendra Mishra said.

The teachers association, including UPRUTA and Federation of UP Universities College Teachers Association (FUPUCTA), are demanding arrears with effect from January 1, 2006.

"We are also demanding that age of superannuation should be increased to 65 years and orders regarding HRA, DA and city allowance should be issued by the state government," president of Lucknow University Affiliated Colleges Teachers Association (LUACTA) Maulendu Mishra said.

"Sixteen states have already sent letters to the University Grants Commission demanding arrears with restrospective effect," he said.

The UPRUTA secretary claimed that the boycott call was successful across the state.
