The Tripura government on Monday announced a three-member expert committee to implement the Seventh Central Pay Commission recommendations in the state. The committee, headed by former Assam chief secretary P.P. Varma, will submit a report within 90 days, a finance department notification said.
On March 10, chief minister Biplab Deb had said - after the first meeting of his council of ministers - that an expert committee would be formed to oversee implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission awards for employees.
The Seventh Pay Commission award was one of the key issues the ruling BJP had promised in its "vision document" before the Assembly elections. The party's national president Amit Shah said central perks would be announced in the first cabinet meeting if the BJP was voted to power.
The committee has also principal secretary of urban development Manoj Kumar and additional secretary (finance) P.R. Bhattacharjee as members.
"The panel will examine, review, evolve and recommend changes which are required and feasible regarding principles that would govern revision of emoluments structure including pay, allowances and other benefits," the notification reads.
State government employees, employees of subordinate judiciary, state Legislative Assembly secretariat, Tripura Public Service Commission, grant-in-aid schools, Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) and other constitutional bodies will be covered by the pay package rationalisation.
The expert panel will also determine if the post of group D will be retained, study resource position of the state government and its commitment to development activities.
