The five associate banks of the State Bank of India will function as usual on Wednesday, as the All-India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and State Sector Bank Employees’ Association (SSBEA) have deferred the proposed all-India bank strike to a later date.
An AIBEA official said: “We tried to persuade the State Bank of India management to settle the issues amicably. But they not only did not respect the government’s guidelines, but also imposed their own conditions on us. Hence, it was decided to approach the Union Finance Minister for an early solution. We are deferring the strike.”
C.H. Venkatachalam, AIBEA general secretary, said the strike was called to protest the ‘anti-associate bank approach’ of the SBI management towards the State Bank of Bikaner and Jaipur, the State Bank of Travancore, the State Bank of Patiala, the State Bank of Mysore and the State Bank of Hyderabad. He said associate banks were denied trade union rights and compassionate appointment and the government’s guidelines on staff housing loan and bipartite settlement violated.
