On the initiative of the Chief Minister the state government on Saturday announced 10 percent hike in the Dearness Allowance (D.A.) of the State Government employees. Dearness Relief for the pensioners has also been increased by 10%. Nearly 7 lakh employees and 3 lakh pensioners would be benefited by this increase in D.A. and Dearness Relief (D.R).

The prevalent D.A. of the State Government employees was 90% and after the increase of 10% it will be now 100% of the basic pay. The increase in D.A. would be effective from January 1, 2014 and it would be paid in cash from March, 2014. The Arrears on account of the increased D.A. from January 1, 2014 to February 28, 2014 would be credited in the GPF accounts of the employees appointed before January 1, 2004 while employees appointed after January 1, 2004 the Arrears of the hiked D.A. would be paid in cash.
The increased Dearness Relief (D.R.) to the pensioners and family pensioners would be paid in cash. D.A. hike would also be applicable for the work charge employees, employees of the Panchayat Samitis and Zila Parishads also.
The hike in D.A. would cost the state exchequer Rs. 1250 crore additional annually.
