The Supreme Court on 08.10.2012 refused to pass any order granting any additional payment to working and non working journalist both in electronic and print.
A bench comprising Justices Aftab Alam and Ranjana Prasad Desai however made it clear that there is no stay against the implementation of the recommendations of Majithia committee enhancing the wages of journalists and non journalists.
The apex court was hearing a batch of petitions filed by managements of news channels, newspapers and news agencies including PTI and UNI.
The petitioners today contended before the apex court that the recommendations of the committee cannot be implemented due to heavy financial stakes and ramifications.
Justice Majithia committee report has recommended more than 80 per cent hike in the wages of the journalists and non journalists.
