The State government has enhanced the dearness allowance (DA) to its employees by 5.136 per cent on their basic pay with effect from January 1, 2011.

A decision to increase the DA for the staff was taken by the State Cabinet at its meeting here on Tuesday. The hike will place an additional financial burden of Rs. 1,194.92 crore annually on the exchequer, benefiting each employee to the extent of Rs. 700 to Rs. 1,000 on an average. The hike is applicable to pensioners too.
At a media briefing later, Information Minister D. K. Aruna said the arrears of the increased salaries would be remitted into the Provident Fund accounts of the employees for the four-month period up to April 30, 2011 while cash payment would be made effective from May salary payable in June fist week. The Minister said grama sevaks, part-time assistants and other such cadres would be paid an additional amount of Rs. 50 a month in lieu of DA enhancement.
She said with this, the overall DA hike implemented had touched 29.96 per cent.
