Pay commission implementation: Centre to be approached to share the burden : Goa Chief Minister

States will ask the Centre to bear 50% impact of implementation of the sixth, says Goa Chief Minister , Mr Digambar Kamat.
Speaking to mediapersons during an informal address on Wednesday, Kamat said that an empowered committee of finance ministers of all states has been formed. "This committee met in Delhi and has decided to request the Centre to bear 50% of the implementation of the sixth pay commission recommendations."

He said that the West Bengal finance minister who heads the committee will seek an appointment with the prime minister and present a memorandum of their request to him soon.

Implementing the 6th Pay Commission recommendations will entail an additional burden of around Rs 25 crore per month on the government.

The overall liability on the government in terms of salaries and arrears for the period from January 1, 2006, to August 31, 2008, is estimated to be around Rs 800 crore.

The average jump in salary for any government servant ranges from 30 to 35%. This includes house rent allowance (HRA) which has gone up by around 15 to 20%. The state will have to bear a liability of Rs 800 crore initially and an additional Rs 300 crore annually once it implements the commission-recommended wages for its employees.
