Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the government would also merge the 10 percent interim relief into the DA. So from January 1, government employees will get a DA of 125 percent, she said. Government employees in the state have been getting an interim relief of 10 percent of the Band Pay since July 2016 when Banerjee returned to power.
The 10 per cent interim relief is seven percent of DA. So the DA has been raised by 25 percent from next year, said Chief Secretary Malay Kumar De. Last year, the state government had announced a DA hike of 15 percent that came into effect from January this year.
The latest hike will cost the state government another Rs 5,000 crore every year.”The state government is going through a tight financial condition but despite that, because I had promised our state government employees, we have decided to release the additional 18 percent DA,” said Banerjee.

Central retirement age hike from 60 to 62 ?

There is widespread rumours that central Govt. is going to announce retirement age hike from 60 to 62. A section of media and websites has gone so far that they have declared the possible date of announcement by Govt. as 15th August.
But  top sources say there is no such move.
"There is no such plan to raise the retirement age to 62 from 60 years," a reliable source in the government said.
Recent media reports had claimed that the Ministry of Personnel was working on a proposal to increase the age of service by two years as part of government's plan to defer payouts in the form of pensions and other payments to check fiscal deficit.

It was also speculated that the move may be timed ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
