Aadhaar not mandatory for getting pension: Govt
New Delhi, May 15 (PTI) Aadhaar card is not mandatory for central government employees to get their pension, Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh has said.
In 30th meeting of the Standing Committee of Voluntary Agencies here recently, he said Aadhaar is an additional facility to enable the use of technology for submission of life certificate without the need for visiting banks.
His assertion assumes significance as there were reports of some retired employees facing difficulty in getting the pension in the absence of Aadhaar linkage with their bank accounts.
The minister clarified that Aadhaar has not been made mandatory for getting pension for government employees, according to the minutes of the meeting.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit number, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), that acts as identification and address proof.
There are about 48.41 lakh central government employees and 61.17 lakh pensioners.
Singh cited various initiatives started by the central government for the welfare of its employees and pensioners.
"For instance, minimum pension has been increased to Rs 9,000, ceiling of gratuity has been increased to Rs 20 lakh, fixed medical allowance has been increased to Rs 1,000 per month," the minister said.
"Constant attendance allowance has been increased from Rs 4,500 to Rs 6,750 with effect from July 1, 2017. Some benefits relating to income-tax e.g. standard deduction, tax-rebate etc.on interest made available in the Finance Bill, 2018," he said.

Bank strike on 30th and 31st May 2018 over pay hike
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has proposed the bank strike beginning 6 am on May 30, till 6 am on June 1, demanding early revision of wages. The wage revision has been due since November 1, 2017.
Over 10 lakh bankers in government and private banks will go on a 48-hour strike starting on May 30, said an All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) leader.
The United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) proposed the strike beginning 6 am on May 30, till 6 am on June 1, demanding early revision of wages. The wage revision has been due since November 1, 2017.
“The strike notice has been served to Indian Banks Association (IBA) representing the bank management and the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi,” CH Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA, told IANS.
The UFBU is an umbrella body of nine unions in the banking sector representing staff and officers. Wage revision talks between UFBU and IBA held in Mumbai on May 5 had ended in a failure.
Venkatachalam said the IBA offered an increase of 2% over the total wage bill of the banks as on March 31, 2017.
In the last 10th Bipartite Wage Settlement that was made effective from November 1, 2012, the IBA had agreed to a hike of 15 per cent over the total wage bill.
The unions had rejected the IBA offer, Venkatachalam said.
While the government had asked the IBA to conclude the wage revision settlement before November 1, 2017, the latter has been delaying it, he said.

Details of discussion :

"1. About *'Medical Insurance* Scheme', various options were discussed at length. Discussion remained inconclusive. It was decided to have separate meeting on this issue.
2. Discussion on Variable Pay remained inconclusive. We opposed the notion of *Variable Pay.*
3. IBA made it clear that talks will be held for upto Officer Scale III. Because of fractured mandate received from Banks.
4. Initial Offer for *Salary Revision* :
IBA said,"Due to deteriorating financial condition of Banks revealed by recent quarterly results and also disappointing results are expected for forthcoming quarters." IBA made initial offer of *2 % hike in Pay Slip.*
We protested and refused the paltry offer. IBA asked about our expectations. We told them to go by 'Charter of Demands' , which states our expectations. We asked IBA to stop wasting time by making such offer which is mockery.
There was no conclusion on any issue." - As detailed by the unions.
