Govt. rules out any comparison of salary between bank and central employees

No Comparison between pay Structure of Central Government Employees and of Bank Employees
The pay scales of employees in Public Sector Banks (PSBs) are determined as per the agreement between the management and Associations/Unions every five years. Besides the pay, employees in banks are also entitled to a number of other allowances and benefits. The pay scale of the Central Government employees are finalised by Government taking the recommendations of Central Pay Commission into consideration and these pay scales are reviewed generally after ten years. The terms and conditions of service of Central Government employees and Bank employees are entirely different and are regulated in terms of the respective service conditions. Hence, no comparison can be drawn between pay structure of Central Government employees and of bank employees.

This was stated by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today (30.11.2012)

Absolutely correct stand. Before the implementation of sixth pay commission, when the Govt. employees were getting much lower salary than bankers, then there was no such comparison demanded by them. So why now ?

BECAUSE, when central govt officers were getting lower salary than the bankers, a committee named pillai committee was constituted in 70's which gave its recommendations that the job profile of Group A officers of central govt is comparable to that of Bankers and hence their salary may be revised accordingly. Govt acted on the recommendations and central govt officers were given scale equivalent to bank officers.

The question is not that who should get more whether Central Govt staff or Bank employees. The question is everybody should get its right wages. The comparison is just a symbolic comparison while demanding and it is just as it has happened earlier(Pillai Committee).

It shows the poor thinking on the Govt. politicians. It will give a unform pay structure for almost the entire working community in the country if only a Central Pay commission scales are adopted henceforth for Central State and Banks.

This will cause a dearth of working staff in banks. The jobs in banks is more risky than compared to a central govt employee. They deal with customers rather than public
