Karnataka employees to protest on 15th March for paycommission

State government employees will stage a protest on March 15 demanding, among others, implementation of Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations. The employees will organise a programme to discuss service-related issues on Sunday.
Sanjeev, president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of Karnataka State Government Employees' Association, told presspersons on Saturday said the State government was yet to implement the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations that had been accepted by many States.
He said the State government employees were the least paid workforce in the county.
There was a big difference between the salary received by the State and Union government employees. In June 2011, the State government set up a committee headed by Additional Chief Secretary Subhir Hari Singh to look into payment of salary as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. It was unfortunate that the committee was yet to submit its report though the nine-month deadline given by the government would end on March 15, he said.
Apart from an increase in the salary, the employees sought increase in house rent allowance, he said.
Prakash Nayak, general secretary of the association, the association would stage an agitation in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on March 15 between 1.30 p.m. and 2.30 p.m. The association's community hall would be inaugurated in Hampankatta on Sunday, he added.
