J & K : Govt. likely to release arrears in installments, hike in retirement age.


The state government is likely to agree with some demands of its employees after Eid-ul-Fitr, sources said here on Tuesday. They said the government would announce release of sixth pay commission arrears to employees in installments.
“Besides the demand of enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 60 years would also be agreed upon. However, only those employees who retire after March 2013 will be entitled for the enhancement,” sources said.

Majithia report : "Wage board recommendations have to be accepted: Centre"

The Centre has asserted in the Supreme Court that the Justice Majithia Wage Board recommendations on salary hike and other issues for journalists and non-journalists were made on the basis of tripartite talks and are being examined by the government for implementation.

Coal India wage talk : Labour unions asks for 100% rise, actually likely to 20% hike.

Share prices of Coal India fell by over 3 percent on reports that its labour unions have asked for a 100 percent hike in wages. Salaries and wages account for nearly a fourth of the company’s expenditure. The shares recovered towards close, but the concerns remain.

Kerala Cabinet on Wednesday decided to increase the festival allowance of employees from Rs. 1500 last year to Rs. 1750 this year.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the media after the Cabinet meeting that employees who were not eligible for bonus on account of their salaries exceeding the bonus limit would be eligible for the festival allowance. The bonus rates would remain the same as last year. The Onam advance for employees would go up from Rs. 7500 to Rs. 8500.

Air India rethink on free tickets to employees


 The government has formed a committee to look into Air India’s policy of giving tickets free or at a concession to certain categories of employees.
“In Air India, concessions are given even to distant family members of employees. We have to revisit several such issues. A committee has been appointed to look into the issue,” said V. Narayanasamy, minister of state in the PMO. The government will take appropriate steps after the committee submits its report.

Air Iindia unions to press for pay on time, restart of flights


When Air India’s new chairman, Rohit Nandan, takes his first meeting tomorrow with the unions, he is set to face demands about the timely payment of wages, besides restoration of cancelled routes and better route planning to improve the government carrier’s load factors.
All the same, the employees have sensed positivity after getting a boss a fortnight ago, leading them to tone down their earlier confrontationist mood. “We understand that the new chairman does not have a magic wand,” says an Air India employee. “For the last few months, the airline employees have not been receiving salaries on time. This has affected the morale. But this month we received it twice. First on August 1 and again last Saturday (August 20), we received another tranche.”

Govt ready to implement journalists wageboard after SC nod - Minister assured again

The Centre is ready to implement the recommendations of the wage boards for journalists and non-journalists once the matter is cleared by the Supreme Court, Union Labour Minister Mallikarjuna Kharge on Sunday said.
"That is pending before the Supreme Court. As soon as Supreme Court gives its verdict, we will definitely implement. We are definitely in favour of you (media)," he said.
Kharge was speaking on the sidelines of a function where he laid the foundation for an ESIC Dispensary-cum-Diagnostic Centre at Jeedimetla, Hyderabad.

Team Hazare asks govt staff to take mass leave, Chidambaram hopes no response.


Team Hazare today asked government employees across the country to go on mass leave tomorrow to show solidarity with Anna Hazare but Union Home Minister P Chidambaram hoped they would not respond, describing the call as "completely wrong."

Govt tries to vacate the stay of Supreme Court to implement wage board recommendations.


To a question, Mr. Kharge said the Labour and Employment Ministry had requested the Law Ministry to hasten the process to vacate the stay given by the Supreme Court on the notification of the recommendations by the Majithia Wage Board for journalists and non-journalists.
“I have spoken to Law Minister Salman Khursheed to intervene in the matter and ask either the Solicitor-General or the Attorney-General to take it up.”

Civic unions called off their token strike after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Commission(BMC) administration accepted their demand to implement the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations. This decision will benefit 1,24,000 employees and 30,000 contract labourers.

No hike in retirement age, Govt. clarifies.


New Delhi, Aug 9 (PTI) The government today said there is no proposal to raise the retirement age of its employees from 60 years at present.
"At present there is no proposal to increase the age of retirement of Government servants,"Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.

Gujarat clears allowance hike for state judicial officers


The state government has cleared a hike in the allowances of all judicial service officials in Gujarat in accordance with the Justice (Retd) E Padmanabhan Committee recommendations.
The Cabinet has cleared the hike, which is three to 10 times the existing allowances, with effect from January 1, 2006.

Coal India workers withdraw strike

Workers' union of Coal India on Friday withdrew a proposed three-day strike, called to press early wage revision, after receiving assurance from the management on early settlement of the issue.

Five leading unions at Coal India -- INTUC, BMS, CITU, HMS and AITUC -- had in July threatened to go on a three-day strike from August 8 demanding early revision of wages.

Implementation of One Rank One Pension

Following is the information given by Minister of State for Defence Shri MM PAllam Raju in written reply to Shri K.E. Ismail in Rajya Sabha today. 
"Improvement in pension is an ongoing process. Though the demand for One Rank One Pension (OROP) has been considered by various Committees in the past but it has not been found feasible to accept it. However, keeping in mind the spirit of the demand a Committee was set up under the Chairmanship of Cabinet Secretary to look into the issue of OROP and other related matters, which submitted its report on 30.6.2009. The Committee made seven recommendations to substantially improve pensionary benefits of Personnel Below Officer Rank (PBOR) and Commissioned Officers, which have been accepted by the Government.

Majithia Wage Board to be implemented after SC direction: Govt


Government said it will implement the recommendations of the Majithia Wage Boards for journalists and non-journalists as soon as it gets a direction from the Supreme Court.
"Government is not going back. We are not shirking our responsibility. We will take all measures to implement recommendations of Wage Boards for Working Journalists and Non-Journalist in Newspaper and News Agency Employees", Labour and Employment Minister Mallikarjun Kharge told Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

West Bengal looking for centre's assistance to release Dearness Allowance before 'Durga Puja'

Stuck in a financial crisis, the new government is not in a position to fulfil its non-plan commitments. "Development plans can be made only after the PM gives us specific assurance about the fund release," a senior Cabinet minister said, adding the government can't even foot the dearness allowance bills that state employees will be expecting ahead of the Pujas. With a low revenue flow till September, the government can't plan a full-fledged budget and is mulling the vote-on-account route yet again.
