West Bengal hiked ministers' allowances

The debt trapped WB Govt. has substantially increased the allowance of ministers. In the left regime, Cabinet Ministers were entitled to a consolidated allowance of Rs 7500 per month. In addition they were paid Rs 225 and Rs 300 per day for tour inside state and outside state respectively.
The new allowance is fixed as daily basis - Rs 1000 per day irrespective of any tour or work in office. It is effected from 1st September 2011.  As the assembly is not in motion, the hike has been effected by an ordinance, perhaps to do it silently without much uproar. It is significant that the miserable economic condition of the state treasury did not make any constraint to increase the take home pay of the people's representatives unlike the employees. The deprived employees, lagging 23% behind in D.A with respect to their counterparts in central and neighboring states may console there selves  as at least their bosses are well paid now.

What will be D.A. for January 2012 ?

It may very early to calculate the exact increase as we are only in the half way mark so far as AICPIN data is concerned. The figure for July, August and September 2011 is with us, which is 193,194 & 197 respectively. If the same trend continues, we can calculate the D.A as 7% from 1st of next year. But if the average of the last three months, i.e. Oct to Dec 2011 falls short to the extent of average of 196 , the increase will be 6% in D.A. terms. In other words, the total of AICPIN figure for the coming 3 months should be 589 or more to get the D.A. @ 7%..
We will try to update the viewers as and when new data is available. So let's keep fingers crossed !
